Founded in 2014, “Ān” was established with the goal of creating and performing oeuvres within the framework of Iranian classical music (Dastgāh system).

The founders—Mehrzād Hovaidā, Sepideh Meshki, Āriā Mohāfez, Houshmand Ebādi, Sānāz Sattārzādeh, and Sinā Dānesh—developed their association and shared vision during their years in the “Hamnavāzān-e Sheydā” group, led by Mohammad-Rezā Lotfi, and while attending his classes at the “Mirzā Abdollāh School of Music” (Maktabkhāneh-ye Mirzā Abdollāh).

“Ān” acts on the foundation of collective decision-making and the group’s universal values, focusing on composing, recording, and performing their works as well as engaging in artistic and cultural events. To stay true to the essence of “Ān,” each project is entrusted to one member of the group, and depending on the nature of the chosen repertoire, the instrumentation and number of ensemble members for performances and/or records will be determined accordingly. Additional artists may join the group based on the necessities of a specific performance.

The premise of “Ān” is grounded on the equal consideration of each member’s abilities, opportunities, and the collective creation of oeuvres.
